Hands down one of our family's favorite kids activities in the Treasure Valley is KidStrong. When I first heard about it I wasn't quite sure what it was or what to expect. Now that we've been attending weekly classes for a couple of months now, we're totally hooked and excited to share more about it with you.Â
In a nutshell, KidStrong is a science-based kids training program designed to help build up strong, confident, high-character kids with the help of parents and professional coaches. Classes incorporate movement and fun into the learning process and it's been wild to see how empowering it has been for my kids (ages 3, 6, 8) and even for me as a mom! I often hear my kids say "this is just like KidStrong" when playing at a playground or myself encouraging them with "You are strong! You are brave! You can do this!" when they meet a new challenge!Â
The Treasure Valley's KidStrong location is in Meridian - off Fairview between Eagle and Locust Grove. The facility is beautiful, bright and inviting. Classes are 45 minutes long and held weekly. They're age based (from walking to age 11) so that activities and milestones can be reached in an appropriate and accessible way.Â
Each class starts off the same... by reciting KidStrong's three affirmations, "I am strong. I am brave. I can do this!" That's followed up with socialization skills practice where kids learn to confidently introduce themselves and interact with one another and their coaches. Coaches then share the various mental, physical and character skills they're going to be focusing on during class and the kids are off and running, completing various courses across the facility and competing in fun challenges.Â
KidStrong programming is designed to improve children's brain development through problem solving, grit and creativity. I love seeing their wheels turning when they’re approaching a new challenge. It's also created to increase the students' physical abilities and strength (although many of the kids wouldn't even know they're exercising and not just having fun). I think my favorite piece of KidStrong's science-based curriculum, though, is its focus on character development. There are so many fantastic opportunities for kids to push themselves and grow in confidence in their classes. It really is a whole person-focused program that truly helps create stronger kids in all aspects of their lives.Â
On top of all of this, the community that KidStrong nurtures is one of a kind. Parents are involved in each class (regardless of age-group) and even given awards for their encouragement, involvement and support of not only their own kids but of their classmates as well. In the class my three year old and I do together, I've come to love the supportive group of parents that we get to interact with each week. We've held each others' babies, helped their kids over obstacles and shared proud tears of joy when the kids have reached new milestones. We're constantly commenting on how much each kid has grown before our eyes and many of these relationships have grown outside of KidStrong's doors.
