United Way of Treasure Valley's Childrens' Book Drive 2024

The United Way of Treasure Valley mobilizes the caring power of our community to advance the education, health, and financial stability of every person. Join them as they work to get books into the homes of kids in our community during the 9th annual Children's Book Drive 2024.

Graphic with words Childrens' Book Drive and today a reader, tomorrow a leader.

Did you know...?

  • 61% of families dealing with financial instability lack books in the home for children. We’re aiming to fill that gap and improve the odds for these children.

  • Reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade is the single most important indicator for a child's success.

  • In 2022, only 60.4 percent of Idaho’s third graders were reading at grade level, according to the Idaho Reading Inventory.

  • Students in families experiencing a low-income have greater summer learning loss than their peers in higher-income families.

  • Providing a wealth of books to children in families experiencing financial instability can help break the link between poverty and poor academic outcomes.

Here's how you and your family can get involved:

📚 Book Collection (March 11-29): Donate new or gently used children's books at any Treasure Valley CapEd, WaFd, or Albertsons location. You can also organize your own book drive with your workplace, club, or place of worship! (See drop off locations here.)

📦 Book Cleaning, Sorting, and Distribution (April 1-5): Volunteer at the Boise Outlet Mall to help sort and package these wonderful books. Let's work together to ensure they reach the hands of eager young readers across the Treasure Valley.

💻 Donate: If you are unable to donate books or volunteer your time, but would still like to contribute, please consider making a donation here. If you would like to purchase a new children’s book to donate to this event, check out their Rediscovered Books wishlist here. Books will be collected and delivered by Rediscovered Books… no need to do anything other than purchase through the link!

Reading opens doors to imagination, learning, and success. By donating books or volunteering your time, you can make a real difference in the lives of children in our community. Let's aim high and strive to help them reach their goal of 25,000 donated books this year! To sign up as a volunteer or learn more about the Children's Book Drive, visit the United Way of Treasure Valley's website. Together, let's ignite a love for reading and empower our future generations.
