There was a time in my life when I was suuuuuuuper close to opening up a Kid's Resale/Consignment store with a friend of mine. I grew up wearing hand me downs, garage sale hopping and thrifting for fun finds. Now having multiple kids of my own, the desire to find a good deal is even stronger. I've written about my love of the local Kids Resale shop Kidz Again (read it here) and the semi-annual Moppet Togs sale is basically that on steroids!
Moppet Togs has been the "premier" kids' consignment sale in the Treasure Valley since 2005! It's held twice per year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall - lately at the Idaho Expo Center. Local families can buy and sell children’s clothes, toys, furniture, and other kid items which really helps both the budget and the environment. #winning!
The sale is PACKED with items. It's hard to comprehend just how many items are available through this sale. This year there were 450 consignors and many of them put in hundreds of items of their own. There's honestly every single thing a child could possibly need from birth to grade school available at this sale - bottles, diapering and potty training gear, books, DVDs, games, sports equipment, clothing GALORE, shoes, bikes, beds, strollers, school supplies, learning materials, room decor, diaper bags, kid suitcases, bedding, backpacks, toys toys and more toys. The list just goes on and on... and on!

The pricing for ALL items starts at $2.50 and goes up by .50 cent increments from there. Since each consignor prices their own items there is a pretty big range in prices. For example I found a pair of Native shoes for $10 and a very similar pair in the same size for only $2.50! It really pays to look carefully through each item to find the best quality and the best price. It's the best scavenger hunt!
Consignors get to shop on Tuesday and then Thursday and Friday are the public sale days. On Saturday many items are 50% off and then Sunday EVERYTHING is 75% off! Get the schedule and buy your tickets here!
For this upcoming Spring sale I decided to raid the house and go through the process as a consignor to see what it was like. Don't worry if you're new to the consignment world. The Moppet Togs website has a whole section dedicated to instructions and tips for consignors and once you register to sell your items then you're invited to join a Consignors Facebook group where you can ask questions and get all the insider info/tips/tricks for prepping your inventory of goods to sell. The Facebook group was super helpful to this newbie and everyone involved is very kind. I had multiple group members reach out to me after I had asked a question to see if I needed any extra help - I even FaceTimed with a person I'd never met so that she could talk me through my prepping and pricing questions! It's pretty overwhelming at first but I think once you go through the process once, you get the hang of it and it goes quickly. PLUS! If you've got all kinds of stuff but don't want to hassle with all the prep, you can sign up as a "VIP Consignor" and get matched with a "tagger" who will do all the inventory prep and price tagging for you! The major perk of being a consignor is that you get to shop the sale before it opens to the public. Unsurprisingly the really good stuff goes quickly so the pre-sale shopping really is worth while. Not only that but you get paid anywhere from 45-70%+ of all the items of yours that sell. (My goal this time is just to make enough as a consignor to pay for all the goodies I brought home from shopping the sale!)
I'd highly recommend grabbing a ticket and checking out the Spring Sale happening this week. And as you start putting away all your Fall and Winter items, set the good stuff aside to try your hand at consigning in the sale this coming Fall!
