Ideas for Staying Cool in Boise With Kids

It's getting HOT up in here. So hot. So miserably hot.

It's tempting to stay home in the air conditioning and just let the kids eat popsicles on the couch BUT we all know how that ends... Hint: it's not pretty and ain't nobody happy.

So here is a little list of things to do in Boise to keep your family cool and entertained during this heat wave!

  • Popsicles in the Park!

There's just a few dates left! Have you made it to one yet? Stop by and grab a free Otter Pop (or two or three) and chat it up with some other moms while your kids play. Check this post for details and make sure to check in with us on social media in case there are any last minute changes (like a broken freezer again...).

  • Visit a museum!

We love having a membership to the Idaho State Museum and the Children's Museum of Idaho. It's great to have indoor options that we can go to frequently without the pressure to make it into a whole big outing, ya know? We can stop in for an hour and leave without feeling like we wasted time or money.

  • Go bowling!

There's still time to sign up for the Kids Bowl Free program! Kids get two free games PER DAY at participating bowling alleys. All you have to do is pay for shoes! Check it out!

  • Snag a cold treat!

I was REALLY craving ice cream the other day and I asked for everyone's input on the "best" ice cream in the Treasure Valley over on Instagram. I saved the big list on the "Summer Stuff"highlight reel. My all time fave is the "Deja Vu"flavor at The Stil. TO DIE FOR. Other cold treat favorites are Blue Cow Frozen Yogurt and the slushies at McDonalds lolzzzz. PS... Where's the best shaved ice shack? We gotta know!

  • Go swimming or visit a splash pad!

We haven't been to all of them yet but Ivywild Pool is our family's favorite public pool. And since I've got 3 kids who aren't independent swimmers and the thought of taking everyone to a pool on my own gives me serious anxiety, you can find us checkin out all of the fun splash pads in the area. We're so lucky that there are SO many awesome ones! Here's the full list.

  • Visit your local library!

We can't get enough of our local libraries. There are so many fun events for families and there always seems to be fun activities throughout each branch for kids to do. Our favorite is the branch off of Cole and Ustick. I think it has a really great area for kids of all ages! We also love the Garden City Library. It has a super cute area for kids and is next to a great little walking path and garden.
