With so many amazing outdoor opportunities in Boise's backyard there is a hidden gem in the West Bench area that often gets overlooked. Hyatt Hidden Lake Reserve, located at 5301 N Maple Grove, just off McMillan and Maple Grove streets, is a 53 acre piece of land and water filled with birds and animals and all kinds of natural beauty.
You can enjoy a couple miles of easy pathways and overlooks as well as conservation stations. These stations are designed to educate visitors on various conservation efforts happening in Boise parks. There are also a couple areas with "cavity nesters" - areas where animals unable to create their own nests can find a place to raise their young. According to the Boise Parks and Recreation website, "the nesting boxes at this conservation station show some similarities and differences in cavity structure. Check out this station and learn about the wide variety of cavity nesters in our community and the different types of bird boxes you can have to help provide them with habitat!"
There are two parking lots - one off of McMillan and the other close to Chinden on Maple Grove. There is a year round bathroom facility at the parking lot close to Chinden.
Note: While smooth and easy to navigate, the paths aren't super stroller friendly unless you have a heavy-duty off roading stroller. Also, dogs are not allowed in the area per city code.
Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve is one of our favorites on our list of 15 FREE Things To Do In Boise With Kids. If you're looking for another free, outdoor adventure we also love the MK Nature Center and you can read all about that here.
This is a perfect Fall outing with your kiddos! Text a friend and plan a play date there soon!
